Constitution & SU Student Group Affiliation

The following outlines the policies which societies and sports clubs, collectively known as student groups, must adhere to in order to affiliate to the Students’ Union for the 2024/25 academic year

(1) Group Name

  1. The student group, society or sport, shall be called Shock Radio and TV; an organisation within the Students’ Union.

(2) Aims & Objectives

  1. The aims and objectives of the group shall be:

    1. To offer fellow societies a platform & a voice to promote the work they are doing.
    2. To support Salford SU by being present at events, providing music & broadcasting live.
    3. To be visible on Campus, not just around our base at University House but in other buildings & Media City.
    4. To educate our members on their next steps within the media & audio industries - through events and workshops as well as continuing training.
    5. To truly represent the student body at Salford, and ensure all society members feel included, represented and supported.
    6. To ensure we remain a fully dual medium society - with students being encouraged to pursue both audio & video production.

    These aims and objectives are to be discussed and developed with support of the Student Opportunities Coordinator.

(3) Membership

  1. Membership of the group is open to all University of Salford Students, Alumni, Staff.
    1. Current students at the University of Salford must make up at least 80% of the membership.
    2. No more than 20% of the membership can be made up of staff and Alumni.
    3. The Union reserves the right to set a membership quota to ensure the sustainability of your group.
  2. Students’ Union Student Officers are considered honorary members of the group, however, retain no voting rights and cannot stand on committees or take other leadership roles.
  3. All groups which are full societies or sports clubs of the Union will charge a membership fee, of which part will be contributed to the Union to assist running and insurance costs. Union staff will determine the minimum amount and contribution amount.
  4. The committee with the final vote from the Chairperson retains the right to remove someone from the society with the approval of the SU, with evidence of why this person should be removed. Shock Radio and TV is a diverse society open to all students, staff and alumni. Bullying of any kind is not allowed, harassment of any member whether it be verbal, physical, sexual, visual or gender is not allowed.
  5. All memberships expire on the 31st July, unless stated otherwise e.g. trimester only memberships.

(4) Rights Of Members

  1. All paid members of the group may take advantage of all the activities and privileges arranged for the group. Only paid members may conduct business on behalf of the group, and only paid University of Salford student members can vote for or hold official positions.
    1. This does not apply to Alumni and Staff members, who do not have access to BUCS fixtures and individual championships.
  2. Non-members may be admitted to the meetings and functions of the group at the discretion of the committee, but they shall not enjoy the privileges of full members.
